  1. What is a domain registrar?

A domain name registrar is an enitity (usually a company) that manages the assignment of internet domain names. A domain name registrar must be accredited by a generic top, level domain (gTLD) registry and/or as a country code top. Level domain (ccTLD) registry.

Prior to 1999, Network Solutions operated the com, net and org registries. In November of 1999, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) was created and is the recognized controlling body. Since 1999 hundreds of registrars and providers (who act as retailers for various registrars) have been formed.

For more information, please see the Domain Name Ownership page.

  2. Which domain registrar should I use?

For the newcomer who doesn’t already have a registrar...here’s a short list to pick from.

    Netfirms.com
    NameCheap.com
    Register.com
    1and1.com
    NetworkSolutions.com
    Dotster.com
    Enom.com
    BulkRegister.com
    Hover.com
    FastDomains.com

  3. How long does the domain transfer process take?

Once you have received an authorization code from Boxed brands the transfer can take anywhere from a few hours to several days, largly depending on how the registrar you are using processes transfers. The major source of delay here is the fact that most registrars send email to the current owner of the domain and do not complete the transfer until they get a response.

Once the domain name is in your account you can modify it to point to your Web site. While this change is virtually instantaneous at your registrar, it usually takes several days for this change to be visible everywhere on the Internet.

  4. What are the costs involved with owning a domain?

Domain names are usually registered for a one year period which must be renewed. The registration fees vary quite a bit with different registrars, from a low of about $4.99 to a high of over $34.99 for one year. There is no guarantee the price of registration will not increase. (Most registrar's rates have increased somewhat in the past couple of years.) Some registrars will register a domain name for a longer period, usually at a reduced price per year. (This also guarantees the price for that period.) There have been persistent rumors that a longer registration helps with search engine placement but we canot confirm that.

  5. Can I trademark my new brand name?

The likelihood is very high with a Boxed Brands brand name. It, however, is not guaranteed. Our names, generally, are not keyword based which allows for easier trademarking. Please see the Naming Primer. Only a trademark search or a consultation with a trademark/IP attorney will determine trademark-ability. Conduct a trademark search here: uspto.gov

  6. How do I know if my brand/domain name is already trademarked?

Please refer to question # 5 above

  7. I’m a domain owner. Can I list my domains for sale on the Boxed Brands website?

Please read this: Be a Boxed Brands Contributor

  8. I’m a graphic designer and I’d like to sell my work on Boxed Brands. What’s the process?

Please read this: Be a Boxed Brands Contributor

  9. Can a Boxed Brands .dot com "brand" name be reserved?

Yes. Once you have contacted a designer to discuss the purchase or to make any changes to a logo design, the brand can be reserved or held for a reasonable period of time while the changes are discussed. If you would like to have a brand held for a longer period of time (for example, while you do any preliminary trademark research or, finalize funding)...this can usually be done if a refundable deposit is made, usually on the order of 10% to 20% of the purchase price, depending on how long you want to have the brand held. Please call Boxed Brands at +1-866-220-2929 immediately to secure your brand if you are interested in having it held for an extended period.

  10. Why are all of the names on Boxed Brands dot coms (.com)?

The reason is very simple: the .com TLD extension is the most recognized, accepted and sought after extension. People naturally assume your internet address is a .com.

  11. What do I receive when I buy a .com brand name from Boxed Brands?

Simply stated: you will receive the right to control your domain name. Please read this important article: Domain Name Ownership

Additionally, you’ll receive the logo that’s shown with the Boxed Brands brand name. Your logo can be customized and you’ll receive numerous design file types. Also, a document showing copyright transfer will be sent to you. Purchases must be completed prior to any custom design changes.

Our registered domain/brand names or logo designs are sold only to you. They’re never sold again. These are one of a kind, unique designs. You’re paying for a unique logo design only to be used by you. It would be unethical to do otherwise. The entire concept of a name or logo is to be unique and let you stand apart from your competition.

  12. What do I receive when I buy only a stand-alone logo design from Boxed Brands?

The answer is the same as the answer to question # 11, except there is no domain name involved.

  13. Can the brand name logo design or the stand-alone logo design be changed, altered, or customized to my specifications?

Yes, small, easily done changes are free and are included in the purchase price. Any extensive changes may incur additional changes. Please contact the designer using the form on the page that describes the brand you are interested in. For general questions, please use the Boxed Brands contact page

  14. Can Boxed Brands or any of their designers create a custom (bespoke) stand along logo design for me?

Absolutely, simply contact the designer of your choice or see the Logo Design Questionnaire.

  15. Can Boxed Brands create a custom name for my company, product or service?

Absolutely, please follow this link: Naming Brief / Questionnaire. After your naming brief questionnaire has been received you'll be contacted to discuss your naming project, the costs and the time frames involved.

  16. What do I need to do first if I want to buy a brand/domain name or a stand-alone logo design?

    1. A client “user account” is needed to make purchases.

    2. From the menu that is at the top of every Boxed Brands page, select “log in”

    3. Select “New Account”, then fill in the text fields

    4. Select "Submit". An email will be sent to your email address that contains a link that you must use to compete the creation of your account.

    5. There is no cost involved and you won’t receive unsolicited emails. The only emails will be about your purchase transactions and design changes.

  17. If I like a brand name, but not the logo, can the logo be changed?

Yes, it can be altered, changed or customized to your specifications.

...or a completely different logo can be created. Costs for a new design need to be discussed with the selected designer or inquire here: Logo Design Brief / Questionnaire

  18. What is your refund policy?

Boxed Brands will generally issue a full refund less a small handling fee (no more than 3% of the purchase price but no less than $50.00) if requested within 15 days of purchase. All sales will be considered final after 15 days. To receive this refund the buyer must first transfer any domain name (s) involved in the sale back to Boxed Brands in an expedited manner along with a new copyright transfer agreement showing Boxed Brands as the new copyright holder of any logo designs or graphic artwork. Accordingly, any Boxed Brands digital data in your possession must be deleted. A refund will then be issued using the same mechanism that was used for the original payment.

  19. Explain the buying process.

    1. Search our portfolio/catalog of brand names or logo designs.

    2. Search by category or simply individually by viewing all of the brands, (recommended). Refer to question # 16 you’ll need to create a new user account.

    3. Discuss costs and or design changes with the individual designer.

    4. Choose your method of payment: PayPal, credit card, check, wire transfer or an escrow service.

    5. Proceed with your purchase

  20. How is Boxed Brands different from other domain sellers?

    1. Most domain sellers are involved only with “keyword” domains, example, mortgage.com, beer.com, jewelry.com and so on. This is just fine if a keyword domain is what you want or need.

    2. Boxed Brands & several other companies create & sell unique (non-keyword) domains. Names that have a high likelihood of being trademarked. Trademark-ability is of great concern to many companies in maintaining their competitive edge.

Of the few companies online that sell brandable domain names, Boxed Brands truely stands out a a leader for two prime reasons:

      1. We invite you to consider the depth and overall linguistic quality of the Boxed Brands portfolio. Compare our names with any other provider...the differences, we believe, will be apparent.

      2. The design quality of our logos: unique, inspired, and memorable, all done with the talents of a worldwide group of stylistically different designers.

  21. How is Boxed Brands different from other graphic designers, naming companies or large branding/design agencies?

The Boxed Brands business model is found here.

As well as a business model , it’s our personal philosophy.

    Read more here: Identivos.com

Simply put, the business structure and economic model of a large, or even mid-sized agency cannot be as cost effective as a smaller operation. Boxed Brands can offer lower prices and faster service than a large firm, while still maintaining a high level of creative “quality".

The obvious cost savings accrue to the individual business owner or entrepreneur:

    ~lower prices
    ~faster delivery
    ~more 1:1 designer involvement

Designer/client involvement is crucial, this is the main drawback to the “crowd sourcing” phenomenon and why this CS model does not work well for either the client or from the designer’s perspective.

  22. Are all of the brands available for immediate sale?

All domain names that are not marked as "On Hold" or "Sold" can be purchased now. A few domain names cannot be transfered for up to 60 days because of the ICANN 60 day rule. Please see Domain Name Ownership for information about this rule. Domain names that are restricted by this rule are clearly marked on their description page. These domain names can be purchased now and will be transfered as soon as possible. All other domain names will be transfered within a few days of purchase.

  23. As a buyer we would like our transactions to remain private or discreet?

Yes, it’s our policy that Boxed Brands does not discuss purchase/ownership details outside of the parties directly involved. We will sign an NDA if you deem it necessary, please advise ahead of time.

  24. Can discounts be extended for purchasing more than one domain or more than one logo design?

Yes, contact Boxed Brands for specific discounts on multiple purchases.

  25. Which browser do you recommend for viewing this site?

Chrome does the best job of displaying the logo images at various screen sizes. Both FireFox and Opera do a good job but the quality of the images is somewhat lower for some screen sizes. Internet Explorer version 8 (IE8) or later is also OK but we do not really recommend it. IE8 does not realiably display the authenication status of the site (see next answer). Versions of Internet Explorer older than IE8 may not correctly display some pages and should not be used.

  26. How do I know I’m on the Boxed Brands website & are my credit card transactions safe & secure?

The first thing to do to verify a web site is to look at the URL shown in your browser's address bar. Make sure that it exactly matches the web sites URL. (The URL is everything between the http:// (or https://) and the first single /. Only the last part must match, for example payment.paypal.com matches paypal.com or PayPal.com - case is not significant. Pay-Pal.com would not match! Fradulent sites often use URLs that are very similiar to the URL of the site they are trying to impersonate.) A Web site which handles any kind of secure data should use a secure (SSL/TLS) connection. This is indicated in different ways in different browsers. In many cases part or all of the address bar will have a green background when the connection is secure. In some (mostly older) browsers a padlock icon will be displayed somewhere in the border area to indicate a secure connection. You should be able to get more information about the connection and the Web site by clicking on whatever the browser uses to indicate a secure connection. This should display the name of the owner of the site and the name of the CA (Certificate Authority) that issued the site's SSL/TLS certificate.

Boxed Brands uses a secure connection for all pages whenever a user is logged in to a Boxed Brands account. The certificate should list "Box Brands" as the owner and should have been issued by "xxxxxx"

Boxed Brands does not directly collect payment information on its site. Payments using PayPal are handled by paypal.com. Credit card payments are handled by authorize.net (one of the larger on-line credit card processors). Before entering payment information you should verify that the expected URL (paypal.com or authorize.com) is shown in your address bar and that the connection is secure.

If you see anything that does not look right, do not enter any payment information but call Boxed Brands immediately at +1-866-220-2929.

Below are screen captures showing the appearance of secure pages on the commonly used browsers.

    Chrome:

When viewing a page from a fully authenicated site the left part of the address bar will have a green background and will display the authenicated name of the site. Clicking on this area displays additional information about the site (as shown below).

    FireFox:

The appearance of an authenicated page with FireFox is similiar to the appearance with Chrome. The current version of FireFox (15) displays the authenicated name in green text on a white background as shown below. Recent previous versions display this with a green background like Chrome. Clicking on this area displays a drop-down with additional information about the site as shown.

    Opera:

Opera's display is similiar except that only the word "Trusted" appears in the green area. The authenicated name is displayed when this area is clicked.

    Safari:

Safari displays the authenicated name at the end of the address bar. It only has a green background when the cursor hovers over it. Clicking on it displays a pop-up window (not shown) that contains additional information.

    Internet Explorer 9:

When displaying a fully authenicated site the entire address bar has a green background. A separate field to the right of the address shows the authenticated name (although it is heavily truncated with most screen widths). Clicking on this additional field displays a drop-down with additional information, as shown below.

NOTE: Previous versions of Internet Explorer DO NOT reliably display a green background for a fully authenicated site. If you insist on using Internet Explorer to view this site, we strongly recomment that you use IE9 (or at least EI8) or a later version. Older versions may display some pages incorrectly.
